Sound Inc provided a custom solution based
around the Mackie D8B digital eight buss
console with additional EFX cards. The
Mackie now serves as a part of a system
fed from three Akai samplers and a variety
of minidisk, DAT and CD players. Sound
designers are able to utilize the D8B
to create almost any kind of acoustic
environment they desire using not only
the original 24 Meyer speakers, but also
20 new Meyer UPM-1P speakers.
All playback devices are mounted in a
double wide rack with full patch bays
and custom multi-pin interconnects so
that the entire system console, playback,
and all, can be quickly and easily moved
from the control booth to the actual theater
space itself depending on the particular
show for which the system is being used.
Multi-pin disconnects at each location
feed signal to the amplifier rack for
the UPM speakers and directly out to the
self powered speakers. Comprehensive loudspeaker
patchbay systems with jacks conveniently
spaced around the entire theater enable
simple hook up of surround and effects
loudspeakers.
The Wilma’s founding directors and
their stable of sound designers are all
extremely pleased with the flexibility
and ease of use of their new system.
