West Catholic Auditorium

West Catholic Preparatory High School has been educating students in West Philadelphia for more than 100 years, and they’ve upgraded technology in the school many times during that time. We just finished the installation of a new audio system in their auditorium, providing a digitally steered loudspeaker system from Renkus Heinz.  This powerful, reliable system focuses the acoustic energy on the listeners while minimizing spill and bounce from the walls, floor and ceiling.  This speaker system is particularly suited to theatrical use as it is highly resistant to feeding back. Eight Shure digital wireless lavalier microphones will be used with musicals and presentations, as well as overhead microphones on inconspicuous stands and four floor-based area pick-up microphones. We recommend digital wireless microphones for the best possible freedom from interference and operational longevity. The FCC periodically rearranges the available frequency spectrum and less and less of it is available to analog wireless microphone use. An Allen & Heath digital mixing system in a rackmount format was installed in a new rack upstage left which also contains the wireless receivers and ancillary electronics. The digital mixer is controlled with an iPad via its own Wi-Fi network, separate from the school’s network.
